A world, even a cartoon one, has certain laws, boundaries, names, and logistics. Since there were only 65 episodes there there is only so much information that you can squeeze out of them. Below is some stuff pulled off of e-mails and messageboard postings that tries to de-mystify some of that world.

What does 'cadpig' mean?

Cadpig is the runt of the litter when pertaining to pigs. However, in the book by Dodie Smith, Anita called the runt of the litter the cadpig and the name stuck. When the writers for the show, then titled Dalmatians: 101, read the book for ideas they came across the character Cadpig and she was put into the show.

Where is that place I keep hearing of?

Dearly farm is just outside of Gruetly. Most likely in an unincorporated part of the town and their mailing address would be Gruetly. But they don't live in the city limits. Gruetly is a tiny one-horse town that is the center for probably mail and quick shopping. Stiffle is a moderately big city near Gruetly. It has the mall and the theater and stuff like that. Topstown is where Anita works and it is across the bay from Stiffle and Gruetly. All of the 101 Dalmatians used to live there. It's a HUGE city and would probably be on the globe if it were a real place.

Why does Lil from Rugrats sound like Cadpig?

There is a perfectly good answer for that. The reason is a woman named Kath Soucie. Kath Soucie is a talented person. Her talented voice has been in a lot of TV shows , movies, and commercials. Kath has even won an Clio award for Chiquita Grapefruit.

Here is her filmography from the Internet Movie Database. The people at IMDB are assuming you know who the characters are.

And here is a March '97 interview about Kath that she, herself, wrote featured in Animation World Magazine

Wasn't Cadpig In A Book?

In 1956 Dodie Smith started an amazing literary work The 101 Dalmatians. There in Cadpig was born. (literally) Since then she's been in only 3 other books. The Starlight Barking: 1967, Cruella Returns: 1997, and The Big Dig: 1997. In the first two original books Cadpig were two quite different characters. The last two as her cartoon character in Disney's 101 Dalmatians: the series.

The 101 Dalmatians- 1956

In The 101 Dalmatians Dodie Smith wrote Cadpig as the runt. Cadpig is too weak to face the harsh Brittish winter alone and has to get pulled around in a cart owned by a farm boy.

The Starlight Barking- 1967

In The Starlight Barking Dodie Smith again revolves the book around Cadpig. This book takes place a few years after The 101 Dalmatians. By this time Cadpig has gained the Prime Minister as her pet and runs the United Kingdom. Just a side note: if you go into this book expecting the same sort of adventure as The 101 Dalmatians you will be surprised. This book takes an unexpected Sci-Fi turn.

Cruella Returns- 1997

In Cruella Returns Justine Korman adapts Dodie Smith's Cadpig into the character from the 101 Dalmatians series we all know and love. Justine was a writer for the show and has takes scenes from the series and sewn them together.

The Big Dig- 1997

In the Big Dig again Justine Korman and Chris Angelilli adapt Dodie Smith's characters into the Dalmatians from the series. Unlike Cruella Returns, The Big Dig is an original story of how one of Cruella's many cousins dig up a dinosaur in Dearly Farm. This book, however is the only one that is a small children's book as it has pictures on every page and a small story line.

How Does That Snappy Theme Song Go?

Disney's 101 Dalmatians: the series Theme Song:
(8 seconds of an updated version of the song in the movie "Cruella DeVil" then...)

I'm seeing lots of spots, plenty of polka-dots. (catch those puppies) Can't catch the furry flurry, runnin in a blurry hurry. (catch those puppies) (101) canines on the run. (101) then doggone dogs of fun. With out fail you'll wind up chasing your tail. What's the harm in ruffeling feathers on this funny farm? (101) life's just a bed or roses. (101) best friends with cold wet noses. Through thick thin push and pull it's one oh one oh wonderful. More times the fun 101 dalmatians.
