Stunt Mania will be a multiplayer, stunt based driving game with track designer
which, for track purposes, is file compatible with the (quite
old) Mindscape / Distinctive game, Sports 4d Driving. It will also attempt to
duplicate many properties of the driving model of that game.
The target platform is SDL/OpenGL, so this game will be available for Microsoft
Windows, Mac OS & various UNIX operating systems, and will be able to use hardware
acceleration if you have it. That said, graphical brilliance is not an aim of this
project - OpenGL was chosen because it magnificently reduces development time, and
for no other reason.
The game will be open source & freely distributable, although the particular license
that is taken will depend on the sourcing of art.
This project is just beginning, and I heavily wish to underline that on the scale
of probabilities, it will most likely be abandoned before it is finished. It all
depends on how many people become involved and how many of those remain so. Please
help if you can.
I am a programmer and can write the driving & game engine and implement all menus
and so on, but what I am not is an artist. I will require help acquiring suitable
3d models for the various in game objects. Also, 2d art will be needed for object
textures. I can adapt to any suitably well documented file format.
That does not mean I would not like help programming. The area I am particularly
weak in at present is AI, and an area I have limited experience but the knowledge
to fully comprehend is the driving model. Musicians and sound artists are also sought after.
Finally, offers of web hosting will be keenly considered!
