No Accidents, No Lost Relatives, Just a Lost Season
November 14th, 2006
It's hard to believe that we actually made it to this years game up in Seattle without an accident or losing a family member in the midst of the maddness known as Qwest Field. But that could be because we didn't take family with us this year. Funny how we, like trained animals learn from what feels good and what doesn't and we've learned that when family is involved with certain things it doesn't always feel so good. This is not to say that our trip went without a hitch because quite frankly it didn't.
After driving through torrential down pouring of rain most of the journey, we managed to make it to our hotel in one piece only to find that the room we had booked online several months prior didn't show up in their records. Why was I not surprised? The room we reserved would not be available until the next night and we would have to settle for a queen instead of a king. Hey one night was ok as long as I had the Wi-Fi for free as they advertised. Since now that Planet Rams is equipped with a laptop we felt it was fitting to bring it so that at least the AOL page could be kept current and up to date. They assured us that there was no problems there. Yeah, right. Immeddiately upon getting settle into the room I hooked up the laptop and the only connection it would pick up on was the guest pay per day at $10 per day wireless service. Hello! That wasn't the deal here. So we alerted the desk of this and the manager came up to see what was wrong, and since he couldn't figure it out, then he paid for the one day service along with giving us our room for the night free. Once we moved to our new room and I once again set up the laptop, they assured us we'd have no wireless connection problems. Yeah, right. Once again it would only offer me the paid wireless option, this time hubby was livid....now they've lowered our new room by $15 per night, since we were planning on staying until Tuesday. While hubby was doing his complaining, I managed to do what even the manager couldn't figure out how to do and that was how to get the laptop to pick up on their free wireless connection. I pretty much kept that my secret the rest of our stay. Hey, what they don't know won't hurt them and besides if they don't know how their own system works, why should I teach them?
Well, I suppose now you're all waiting to hear about the game. Well, we all know we lost, that's a real shocker. Not much you can do as a team if your own coach is handing over the game with moronic decisions and not putting your trust in a kicker known as "Money". Tell me, why the hell you would challenge a play after your kicker has already made you three points and put you a head of the enemy? Especially when you know that if you are correct in your challenge, it won't give you a first down. Now, I can see doing it if it's going to result in a first down, but a 4th and 1. You've got to be kidding me. And to add insult to injury you call a pass play instead of ramming it in with either Jackson or Davis. There's no explanation for that except for pure insanity. Seahawk fans after the game were not thanking their team for the win, they knew the Rams should have won, instead they were thanking Coach Linehan. Way to go Linehan baby.
The only good thing about this game was pre-game. It's always fun to be able to get there before the hoard of obnoxious Seahawk fans pour into the stadium. It's a great time to show the Rams they do have support and you can tell they enjoy seeing the bravery of their own fans to show up in such a hostile environment compounded by the rain that never stopped the entire time we were there. And there were a lot of brave and drenched Rams fans greeting their team.

Speaking of fans, I'll have to admit that the majority of the Seahawk fans weren't that bad this time around, but as my hubby said "They know that they did not win this game on totally their own merit and know that had Linehan coached a smart game that they would have been on the losing end." But there were a few and unfortunately they were close enough to us to be overly distracting and obnoxious. Like the "Gorton's Fisherman" all decked out in neon orange fishermans gear that not once the whole time sat down, god that was annoying. Or the two brave men who had the cajonas to actually get in a woman's face with such bravery and try and get in a fight as we left the stadium once the clock told us the dismal game was over. But the worst of them all was the one I called "Mr. Our House" now he was the epitamy of a classless jackass. But all was not lost on this weekend. After the game we retired to our hotel and drowned our sorrows with delivery pizza and chocolate. Well, the chocolate was my comfort food to get over the pain and agony of defeat and humiliation. But that's ok, because although the Rams lost, our entire trip wasn't. Luckily we had another entire day planned in the "Emerald City".
To ease the pain my husband treated me to the Space Needle, day and night trips a first for me, the Music Experience where we traveled through many wonderful exhibits dealing with musical history and even got the opportunity to privately jam in our own private sound booth where I played keyboard and hubby played guitar. These were real instruments, although I'd never played keyboard before, it came out sounding pretty good, must have been my childhood piano lessons though never complete, but just enough left in the memory banks to get me through. Hubby on the other hand, well, let's just say that the guitar is just not his cup of tea. But it definately was fun. After filling ourselves with music and music history we headed off to something not many in this country will ever get to see again unless they want to travel to Israel and that was the Dead Sea Scrolls. Talk about an awe inspiring ending to what could have been a dismal end to a trip to Seattle. Even John couldn't stop talking about the experience, the history alone was extremely interesting to him. There's no words for it, it's just something you would have had to experience yourself.
When all is said and done, dispite the loss, it was truly one of the most rewarding trips to Seattle since we began coming here nine years ago.
GO RAMS!
