My State of the Rams at the Bye
October 24th, 2006
Well folks a lot sure has transpired since last year this time. With coaching changes and new players entering the fold what should we make out of this team?
I must say that I like the direction this team is headed. The money that they spent in free agency seems to be paying dividends. The players seem to have embraced the new offensive philosophy, and the defense has had its’ moments. In a nutshell I am very happy in the direction this team is headed regardless of record.
Let’s look at some rather surprising stats thus far:
Steven Jackson is in the top tier in rushing yards, and total yards from scrimmage.
Marc Bulger has dramatically decreased his interceptions.
The defense leads the league in turnovers.
Not bad for 6 games into Linehan’s rookie season.
Down the road hopefully we will see the maturation of players like Wroten, Hill, and Adeyanju. These players fit Haslett’s defense a bit better than some players who are getting more playing time. I also am excited about another draft and free agent period for the defense. The Rams in my opinion don’t have the personnel presently to run this defense effectively. With the emphasis on blitzing we need physical, sure tackling CB’s. Fakir Brown, and eventually Tye Hill will do the job. I’m finished with Travis Fisher, who seems to never have a good idea where the ball is.
So as this tough stretch of the schedule approaches we will truly see what this team is made of. John Madden for years has said that the mark of a good team is its' ability to win tough games on the road. Well opportunity id knocking to get that national recognition. Are the Rams up to the challenge?
Either way they are moving in the right direction.
GO RAMS!
